Open Horizons - Somebody was here
Somebody was here!
The exhibition consists of 12 pictures, the motifs are from old fishing villages in the northeastern part of Norway. The pictures are created over a period of several years, and I now have a relation to these communities and cultural surroundings.
Somebody was here is about the relation between now and then. It's not just what's visible on the pictures, it's about what's not visible (and what's provide the conditions for the pictures); the people - somebody was here, left traces of their presence. The window is without glass but the curtain is left, I can see when it moves in the wind. Who lived in this house ...
Somebody was here, it was not so long ago. They lived, worked and grew old at the same place. Here they built their houses, raised the children, worked, grew old and died ... When the living conditions was getting better the German occupation came. The traces are there ... when I walk between the houses I get a feeling of time standig still.
Many people are drawn to these pictures, it's something well
known about them. I can imagine some of my own experiences ...
What's happening when a modern man comes to a place like these
... slows down, beginning to think and feel ...
